Flower Pot Bread: Entertaining on a Budget

November 03, 2008 09:00 AM

Flower pot bread is fun to serve at a garden party, kids’ party or anytime you want to add whimsy and fun to your table. It’s incredibly easy and inexpensive to make, and the results are adorable (and delicious!). Any type of white or whole wheat bread recipe can be made in flower pots – and the size of the pots can vary, depending on whether you want to make individual loaves of bread or one big one.

We especially like this idea for entertaining, as it can add a fun twist to a dinner party, shower or gathering, and is a guaranteed conversation starter. Decorate the finished product by tying a pretty ribbon around the flower pot or cover it with decals.

To make, you’ll need a good bread recipe and some new, unpainted terra cotta pots. Check out this Cooking With Kids recipe, excerpted from Knead It, Punch It, Bake It!: The Ultimate Breadmaking Book for Parents and Kids by Judith and Evan Jones.
